UK Ancestry Visa: Return to Your British Roots
If you are a Commonwealth citizen with a grandparent born in the UK, the Ancestry Visa is one of the simplest routes to living and working in Britain. It is granted for 5 years and leads directly to settlement.
Eligibility
You must be a Commonwealth citizen aged 17 or over
At least one grandparent must have been born in the UK, Channel Islands, or Isle of Man
You must be able to work and intend to seek employment in the UK
You must be able to support yourself without recourse to public funds

Path to Settlement
After 5 years on an Ancestry Visa, apply for ILR. After a further 12 months, apply for British citizenship. This is one of the most straightforward immigration journeys available.
